Ok, Ok, so I know I’ve already had a blog post on locks, but I have to share this with you all. I went to visit a soon-to-be licensed facility over the weekend, and saw a super cool idea to lock up your cabinets that doesn’t require a magnet, key, or RFID dongle - a

ll you need is your finger! Or an app on your phone should your fingerprint not work.

This one was set up for the kitchen drawer that keeps dangerous objects like knives, but you can use it on other places too. How convenient? I took a video to show you how easy it is to use, but I'm technologically challenged and can't seem to upload it to this blog post - sorry!

I think this might also be a great idea for residents rooms so they can have a safe place to keep their valuables, and not have to remember a key. Though it may be a little harder for some of our residents to get used to it - like my grandma would probably NOT know what the heck to do, but she’s quite forgetful. I can also see the residents fingerprints not being read as easily due to their aging dry skin, but we won’t know if it works or not until we try right?

So here are some option I found on Amazon. This first one is very affordable, plus theres a coupon at the time of this blog post. This may be the exact one that I saw in the facility I visited, or at least very similar. It has 722 reviews and a 4.0 rating. It seems to has some fail safes in place like if the battery runs out or your fingerprint won’t read, theres a way to get it to unlock. You can also program up to 20 fingerprints! This one needs AAA batteries and a charging cable that is sold separately.

Here is another option, this one takes up less space and may be easier to install. It has a 4.0 rating. This one is a bit more expensive, but also has a clip coupon for a discount at the time of this post. I like that it has a battery indicator right on the lock as well as app prompts to let you now when its time to recharge. Recharging is done via cable, no extra batteries needed. Standby time is 180 days. Get this - you can have one administrator (that's you!) and 500+ users! We can get all our staff fingerprints on each hand so if one doesn't work another will! You can also track who opened and when. Might be a great idea for the meds cabinet?

Here is a refrigerator fingerprint lock for that med room fridge. Instead of having to remember a code, you just need your finger to unlock it! This has a 4.2 rating. This also has a backup plan in case the fingerprint doesn’t work for some reason. Reviews state that the sticky tab is very strong, but it also comes with some screws for added security. You can also use this on drawers and other places, though I would prefer a cleaner look for drawer locks like in the above recommendations.
